Qventus’s decisionOS delivers data-driven decisions in real time

Forecasting and optimization

Qventus applies machine-learning based forecasting and Industrial Engineering algorithms to anticipate demand and recommend specific actions. These actions can range from in-the-moment decisions (“Call in an additional staff member now”) to decisions that look several weeks ahead (“Adjust an appointment length”). Our decision system allows frontline staff to move away from rules of thumb and act on specific, analytically-derived recommendations.

Statistical monitoring and visualizations

Managers and administrators already have enough dashboards to look at. For a busy clinical manager, for example, there is too much happening with the patients on the unit to be able to open and study a dashboard regularly. We engage managers and administrators at all levels by statistically detecting and alerting them to unusual patterns in the data. We let you know when there is something that needs your attention.

Root cause analysis

When we detect a meaningful pattern in the data, we apply our patented root cause algorithms to find out why. Rather than sifting through reports and charts to understand why performance may have deviated, our users receive simple, plain-english explanations of the most likely root causes. Was a certain subprocess bottlenecking the department? Was there a clinician that was given a larger workload than appropriate? Were there outside factors - like weather or disease trends - that led to the deviation? We’ll tell you automatically.

We deploy anywhere

from the ER to the OR, ICU and beyond

Emergency Room

Qventus can help you plan better for patient surges and handle them more efficiently. Today, many Emergency Departments operate reactively; overflow beds are opened once patients are already waiting outside, staff is called in once the existing team is already overloaded, and clinicians scramble to discharge patients when beds are already full. Qventus anticipates these scenarios and delivers recommendations to nurses, charge nurses, physicians and admitting units so they can get ahead of the issues.

Operating Room

In the OR, teams and managers wrestle with common issues - improving utilization, reducing case delays, shortening turnarounds, and cutting down on unnecessary overtime and call hours. Often, these issues arise because cases run long, white space appears suddenly on the schedule, and staff are reacting to the day as it unfolds. The Qventus decisionOS can anticipate these events and recommend which turnarounds to prioritize, when to have more or less staff, and how to improve block utilization.

In-patient wards

On the floors, unit managers contend with last minute admissions from the ED and unanticipated surgical admissions - often without enough time to make meaningful changes to staffing. We help unit managers forecast how their census will change throughout the week, and therefore, what changes should be made to staffing and bed allocation to meet that demand. This means less last-minute struggling to meet ratios, less agency and overtime spend, and smoother patient flow.

Patient Experience

As the patient experience becomes a more critical component of patients’ decisions on where they receive care (and also a publically reported metric), hospitals are investing in patient satisfaction. Rather than reacting to complaints or HCAHPS scores months after the fact, wouldn’t it be better to know where and when to intervene in a patient’s visit? We have the ability to use data to detect which patients are most likely to be dis satisfied with their encounters. We notify unit managers and patient experience teams in real time so that they can visit the patient and recover the experience.
